It is over a year of relationship between the protector and the protectee. And how good is it so far ?


Those of us who keep our daily dose of celebrity watching actively cannot fail to see the man-to-man guarding given to Kim Hyun Joong by an equally ubiquitous, tall, imposing(should I write hunk, instead?) and handsome Mr Jeong UI Yeong. He has already his own circle of fans and admirers and a Facebook account ,too.He has been videoed, pictured,blogged,given gifts and featured in articles. And I got this somewhere that Key East will not think of putting unattractive men together. Of course fans are so thankful he has been doing his job with due diligence. His presence alone say many is comforting and has been thanked that our dear Hyun Joong is in safe hands.

I will not venture to say he really like Hyun Joong ( I can hear howls of protests-”how can he not like KHJ”!), but he is doing his job very well so far.He was trained to excel in managing vulnerability of his client. How vulnerable are clients like Hyun Joong who are going to, attending public events all the time ? Very ,to say the least as he is well recognized. One or two fans that may exhibit behavior potentially harmful may be easy to handle but if you have hundreds of fans whose mind set are easily swayed by crowd mentality ,you’ve got a problem. Eating or drinking from what is offered may also be weak points that should be avoided. But who will think of harming our beloved Hallyu star ? You’ll never know.

A mantra for Client Protection Officer according to John Bigelow is allowing maximum exposure to client with minimum risk. They are trained never to leave their client’s side and to be prepared to deal with any situation that may arise.Which goes to show how much good planning should have been done ahead of time. These include anticipation/screening of people who will be in contact with his client such as reporters,photographers , staff of the venue and program, etc. It will include searching the premises ,the vehicle to be used ,the routes to be taken, even assessment of the short distance between the exit door to the waiting car or van. We have seen Mr Jeong doing that all the time.

The officer, will have to be on standby at all times of active duty particularly in high risk environment.It is enough to say, they should do their job, so their client can do theirs. All of these come with good training and a good command of psychology of crowd control as well as being able to direct clients to safer grounds when there are distracting moments.Or worse during dangerous situations.

It used to be that bodyguards have to be big and visible, but they don’t have to be. In fact, they can be more efficient if they can just blend into the crowd. But Mr Jeong is huge and handsome,he certainly cannot blend into the crowd. Noticed or not, fans must think he is a reliable, comforting sight and pleasing to the eye consort to our star. We have seen how Mr. Security has become part of the Kim Hyun Joong team, they travel together, eat together, deal with fans together …let’s leave the rest between them BTS. Fans who have attended public events of KHJ dare not cross the line (a few, for heaven’s sake, tried). So the more than six footer Mr Jeong has` given off the signal that maintain that unspoken distance, the invisible cordon sanitaire between his client and the fans. Even KHJ knows the rules, though he has made some diversion from it from time to time.

The two have been together through the critical juncture of KHJ ‘s career in the homeland and in many countries overseas. There were the solo promotions and countless fanmeets and now back in South Korea after a grueling two week first time ever solo concert. Is life back to normal? Apart from his pleasant facial expression and occasional smiles we have not heard a single word from Mr Bodyguard. I don’t think Mr Jeong will agree to any interview similar to what the dance team has given regarding working with Hyun Joong .That would be breach of security. But for me, as long as Kim Hyun Joong remain safe and sound, Mr Jeong has done a good job of protecting and taking good care of Mr .Celebrity.
